Mitchell's out

Dave Mitchell, who has served as the city's Corporation Counsel since Mayor Harry Tutunjian took office in 2004, is no longer employed by the city of Troy.

He has been replaced on an interim basis with Deputy Corporation Counsel Charles Sarris.

It is immediately unclear what prompted the conclusion of his duties with the city and officials are not commenting on the change, citing the fact that it is a personnel matter as their reason.

Below is the brief e-mail that was sent out only 10 minutes ago from city spokesman Jeff Buell:

Effective with the close of business on Friday, February 13, 2009, Corporation Counsel David Mitchell’s service with the City of Troy has concluded.

No comments will be issued, as it is a personnel matter.

Deputy Corporation Counsel Charles Sarris will serve as the acting Corporation Counsel on an interim basis.

According to past reports from the city's Law Department, the city had continued to lessen the amount it had to pay for civil court claims since the beginning of 2005 and had not lost a Supreme Court trial case or Federal trial/appeal case since 2004 with Mitchell in the position.

Further details were not immediately available.

Mitchell will be missed. He is an outstanding lawyer that fought hard for the City, regardless of what Campana says. I guess we will see what happens with law suits going forward, time will tell. Thank you Mitchell for all that you have done for us!

My guess is the first three posts are by Dave himself. He was an arrogant jerk. Anyone who ever dealt with him can tell you that. What didn't get paid in claims and more got paid to outside counsel made necessary by the fact that Mitchell was incapable of taking a case to court. Remember the name Scott Weaver. The truth will soon be revealed.

Mitchell didn't live in the city, just the fact that had the job in the first place was illegal.

Also, he didn't serve "the city". He served the administration alone.

Most, if not all of Harry's senior staff do not reside in the City. The Commissioner of Planning Sondra Little and the head of IT Tenn Chen and about 40% of the members of the CSEA don't live in the City and should. All illegal and this administration is fully aware. But this is our great mayor who was not even a resident when he first ran for election, what a joke!

What a great mayor he is..... Courageous and strong. Doing the best for everyone in Troy. Those who don't get their way with the city, hate him. They spend all of their waking hours thinking about him. Stay strong mayor.

Mitchell has been a disaster to the City. He is mean to the residents and anyone that is not a "friend" of the administration. His job was to serve the people which is something he does not get. As for an unblemished record at trial, this is another lie since Troy did lose the case called Tap Inc. v. Dimitradis. The guy has caused more problems for the City than were warranted and there must be a great story behind why they would dump one of the holders of the secrets. Good bye and we hope never to see you again. Get some help.

A big win for TAP. They continue to rape the taxpayers under guise of being tax exempt. And Michael I'm sure you and TAP were "friends" of the other administration.

TAP is a scam and so is Michael. Mitchell must have spanked you at some point and what makes you think he didn't leave on his own accord. Michael you are stupid and ugly, not a good combination.

If you are that curious, why doesn't someone just call Mitchell and ask him why he left? Tutunjian, Crawley and Buell a/k/a: dopey-Moe, obese-Larry and baldy-Curley) will never give you an honest answer. One lawyer is gone, another lawyer takes his place, who cares. Any lawyer will do!

i find it very hilarious that David Mitchell used his office to enforce city laws upon others, yet when he purchased 20 4th street from Mr Weaver, Mr Mitchell never went to zoning or planning to have the building permit re-issued in his name, instead he had city officials ISSUE a Certificate of Occupancy in Mr Weavers name even though Mr Weaver was no longer the owner of 20 4th Street. Does anyone smell a LAWSUIT coming to Mitchell and Tutunjians Door Step.
