Plans for historic theatre

The city will soon apply for state funding to redevelop the former Proctor's Theatre on Fourth Street.

With the support of Columbia Development and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, $5 million will be sought from the state as part of its Restore New York program to turn both buildings into more than 100,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.

Read all about it in Dave Canfield's article.

Another pipedream is what this is. I'll believe it when it actually happens. Along with the lighthouse and other grand idea's that had a press conference, but no follow through.
Great idea to save the facade. They should utilize it like they did when Pattison was mayor -- marking citizens special occasions, birthday's and whatever.

The real person behind is this was John Brown. It seems the only time Tutunjian does anything is when John Brown talks about it. Water debt with Rensselaer....Nothing for 6 years until John Brown has a proposal. Proctor's.....nothing for 6 years until John Brown brings in Caneatrari and Empire State Development and some other agencies for a tour of the building. Code Enforcement...nothing for 6 years until John Brown pushes to hire another code enforcement officer. Tutunjian should get out of the way and let Brown handle ths important stuff.

I agree. Tut is content to sit on his hands unless he thinks someone else might get credit for something. Councilman Brown is a real worker. Good Job John!!

Is this the same water deal that Brown threw the taxpayers under the bus for his political hack friends in Rennselear ? Wasn't that to the tune of about half a million ? He can falsely claim he does all this stuff but I'm more comfortable with someone from Troy that has Troy's interest at heart.

John Brown is responsible for all the good things that are either fixed, or invented in Troy. Praise Jebus for him! Harry should thank his lucky stars for having a John Brown. Before him, there was no hope, nor a future for Troy. Without him, we would have become part of Green Island.
John Brown is Troy's own Al Gore!
Chippy rules!

Looks Like John Browns father is at it again writing posts. The Kennedy's of Green Island are sweating this election with much better candidates this time around.

Bottom Line...John Brown gave away the store over the Rensselaer Water deal and the City Hall Verizon fiasco...good luck defending these two John.

The three stooges of this administration have done nothing for the last 5 years. They are ignorant, extremely overweight, thugs. They have no idea of the shameful things many people say about them and these are the same people that pretend to be their friends and supporters. It is truly sad they are ignorant to this but they will know shortly.

Someone who was against the water deal and City Hall....hmmmmm you are painting yourself in a corner with your two positions there. Not a sitting Councilman such as Mark McGrath, or even an ally of the Mayor because you would be in favor of City Hall. So you are a Democrat looking to make trouble.....Keith, Robert? Reveal yourself and be vanquished you traitor. Wade and Mac will find you!!!

I would like an educated person to compare the deal Harry got and the deal Brown proposed.....no one has ever done this. The differences are minimal. I hope Brown talks about this in his campaign. The truth always wins.

Dear Mr. Troy Record,
Could you please ask John Brown and Dunnuthin why they called a special meeting without telling Clem?
Or should I just ask Mr. Wizard for the answer?

I think Brown has done the best "political" job of being a councilman--he pushes the positives--only attacks often enough to prove he can , and does mailers and robo calls pushing the name in off years. --

The Facts and details get lost over time-- the Image does not.
A positive image only gets stronger when attacked- regardless of the facts.

Smart guy, are you saying that it's good to run for office on lies and deceit ? Are you resigned to that ? Says a lot about you.

Not at all , but if Brown is part of the city government, and the government has any success, are you saying he has no part in it at all.
The point is Brown as done a better job than most in keeping a positive public image without exceeding his role and looking power hungry. So he’s a Smart Guy.
Lies and deceit are not exclusive to one side or the other and I can see you have no tolerance for a point of view that you don’t agree with. That says a lot about me, too.

I guess John Brown forgets where he came from . . . the Democratic Board. If he continues to walk the way of Harry Tuts council . . . he won't get my vote or many of my friends votes either. He seems to forget that Chappy & the rest of the gang don't have a council chamber in this new Verizon Building. Doesn't this bother you John ? ? I know for fact that your old buddy Joey Riley, a real Democrat, would of never put up with this type of cross company with the Republicans, especially after what Harry's track record is. Wake up Mr. Brown . . . how soon we forget ! ! ! Don't rub elbows with the low lives.

This message is for Tom Caprood. Tom I think that if someone who is getting paid $80,000 a year by the taxpayers gets fired, the taxpayers should know why. What do you think Tom ? It seems to be a big cover up by Harry & the boys ( Mirch & Pickles ) and the rest of the council. This information should be public. They do it in Albany & Schenectady, why not Troy ? ? ? Lets see if we can find out what the ex-bad-boy David Mitchell did. I think the Troy Taxpayers have a right to know. Uncle Sam's Cousin, Tim

The problem with Brown is that he is not one of us and not from Troy. He is so scared to take on Tut that he bows to him on every tough issue. This election won't be like the last one John. You are going to be exposed for the pussy that you are.

Smart Guy, I guess I am intolerent of elected officials who practice the art of deception. I guess I'm a dinosaur for expecting honesty in my elected officials. The state of your city is pretty sad when you support a candidate that lies the best. This is not an attack on you, in fact I feel sorry for you and the citizens of Troy.

Lots of lies and hate coming from blog here. "He is not ones of us" "He should go back where he cam from" Using derogatory terms for the female body to describe a city councilman??? I am sure that will work at the door with voters. You dont win campaigns getting in fist fights with your wife or down at the red front or talking with a mouth like that. Good luck fellas.

John Brown has been one of the few councilmembers to distiguish himself. He stood up against the Mayor and pushed for a resolution to the water debt. The Mayor then buckled and adopted virtually the same agreement. Brown fought against the Mayor's Corp Counsel on ensuring the council has legal representation. Brown also stood up to the Mayor on staffing of the Fire Dept w/ RPI. To call him a lapdog is ignoring the facts.

Why does Harry surround himself with questionable characters? Is he desperate for associates? Why keep pursuing the BID program, just to create a job for Jeff Buells girlfriend? The downtown building owners are being led down the path to ruin for nothing but creating a job for $65,000 and hve very little left over for flowers, for the funeral.

Mark McGrath is a huge hypocrit. He didn't suport the stimulus. He doesn't support candidates who support the stimulus. He supports Tedisco who is now, finally, against it. But McGrath is the first one with his hand out looking for money for a community center. What a joke. Hey McGrath the projects need to be shovel ready and have all their approvals. This isn't a pet project fund. Good luck. But this was all for the headline anyway. You could give a crap about the kids

I want to thank Mark McGrath for leaving the US Senate or was it Congress to serve as our councilman. I was surprised that the last poster new his vote on the stimulas when he was there. Also, nice touch hoping the mayor gets divorced and McGrath hates kids. I have a felling you will continue this trash but I also figure people like these two guys. Keep 'hatin' !

Another GOP handout! This is the only way the good ole boys can make a living. First, 2 million (RESTORE grant '08) to Kevin Betty for a Hotel and Garage that will never be built, and if it ever gets built, it is with taxpayer money. Second, pay Judge three times what Verizon is worth, again with taxpayer money. (and wait to see who gets to own One Monument Square - Judge!). Third, fix the bid process so Crawley's buddies (the Finelli's) get a half million dollar construction contract. Now, our brilliant GOP leaders want to give a HUGE grant to another GOP developer to take over proctors! This is not private development, it is taxpayer backed development! These are all the same developers that have contributed large sums to TUT's campaign...how nice for the GOP.
